Manchester United want €58m-rated Barcelona-linked Euro 2024 winner to replace key star

Manchester United have identified Athletic Club star Nico Williams as an ideal replacement for Marcus Rashford.

According to a report from Fichajes, Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of Nico Williams who has had an exceptional rise at Athletic Club. The Reds Devils have already started looking for a potential Marcus Rashford replacement and they consider the Spanish international as an ideal fit for their project.

Rashford has come up the ranks at United and he has been a part of their first team since 2016. While he was at the peak of his power a couple of seasons back, things haven’t been that great for the English international in recent seasons.

He is no longer a guaranteed starter and has been forced to fight for a place in the starting XI. The 27-year-old was left out of the squad for the derby against Manchester City. His absence from arguably their biggest game of the season has raised a lot of question marks about his future.

While Ruben Amorim has insisted that he is still very much a part of his plans, the report suggests that there is a high possibility of Rashford parting ways with United. His off-field behaviour has been a problem for the club and even the player has suggested that he is ready for a new challenge.

United want to sign Nico Williams

The Red Devils are ready to sanction his departure as long as they receive an ideal offer. Meanwhile, they have already started planning for life without the English forward. They have identified Nico Williams as the best possible replacement for Rashford.

United have reportedly already submitted a formal bid as they look to prise him away from Atheltic Club. They want to bring in someone who has immense potential and can help them in the short as well as the long run.

The 22-year-old Spanish international has been a consistent performer for both club and country and he could be a perfect fit in Ruben Amorim’s system. He has the pace and the ability to take on defenders. More importantly, Williams can score as well as create.

While United are pushing hard for the signature of the young winger who is protected by a €58 million release, they will face significant competition from Barcelona. The Catalan giants were linked with the Euro winner during the summer. Things might not have worked out back then but they retain interest in him and could cause significant problems for the Red Devils.
