Joey Barton has urged Everton not to sack Sean Dyche and instead give him funds to spend in January.

The Toffees look set to announce new owners at Goodison as The Friedkin Group could complete their takeover as early as 19 December [The Athletic].

With the US firm set to come in on Merseyside, the future of the manager has been questioned but former midfielder Barton believes the new owners must trust in the ex-Burnley boss.

In a post to X (18 December), he said: “I think Everton would be daft to get rid of Dyche. Give him a transfer pot and let’s see what he can do.

“You can’t run before you can walk.”

The English head coach has done plenty of good during his spell with the Toffees which he deserves to be commended for.

Last campaign, he kept his side in the Premier League despite multiple points deductions which threatened to derail any progress made.

Dyche never used this as an excuse and was able to rise up and away from the relegation battle with time to spare.

Despite this, the former Watford manager has come under fire at Goodison for the performances of his side and the results at different stages of the campaign.

With new owners coming in, the man in the dugout may be fearful for his role in L4 if Friedkin opts to make a change.

Although this may represent an exciting prospect, it would arguably be beneficial for the current gaffer to see out the season and maintain a level of stability.

Then once the move to Bramley-Moore Dock is complete, a new face to lead the Toffees forward could be a better option.
