'I like to think': Paul Mullin comments on Jamie Vardy comparisons, discusses Wrexham promotion …

Wrexham are chasing another promotion this season and fans will hope to see Paul Mullin find his shooting boots.

Wrexham’s promotion to League One was a major success story for Phil Parkinson and this season has arguably gone even better than expected.

Parkinson sits third in the League One table and there are genuine dreams of reaching the Championship.

Wrexham have impressed in League One and this has all been without star striker Paul Mullin hitting his best form.

Mullin has been Wrexham’s goal hero in recent years, smashing 108 goals in 162 games for the club.

Only three of those goals have come this season though with just one coming in league action as Mullin struggles for form.

Paul Mullin on Jamie Vardy

Mullin’s last and only league goal this season came in October with the striker struggling to find his best form.

We have become so used to seeing Mullin scoring and celebrating that this run feels a little strange.

MORE WREXHAM STORIES

Mullin is even sitting on the bench more often than not with Parkinson deciding to go with other options from the start.

Mullin has become a household name at Wrexham and his rise to prominence has earned comparisons to that of Jamie Vardy.

Vardy went on a meteoric rise from non-league football to Premier League title winner and England international in the space of a few years.

Mullin’s story is a little different in that he spent a lot of time in League Two before dropping into non-league with Wrexham in 2021.

The Wrexham stars has though told The Mirror that he believes in himself enough to think that he could enjoy the kind of success Vardy has had at the top level.

Mullin believes that even Vardy couldn’t have predicted his own rise and is putting absolutely everything into trying to win promotion this season.

“I like to think I could perform at those levels if I get there,” said Mullin.

“If somebody had told Jamie Vardy, when he was playing in the National League, that he would go on to play for England, I doubt if he would have believed them. We’ll be putting everything into trying to win promotion again this season and if it’s not meant to be, it won’t be through a lack of effort,” he added.

Wrexham fans will be right behind Mullin

That self-belief from Mullin is something that all strikers need and Wrexham fans will be backing him to get back to his best soon enough.

The best comparison we can make here is towards Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.

City have completely lost their form but fans have so much love and respect for Guardiola that there is virtually no desire to see I’m replaced.

Wrexham fans feel similarly about Mullin; an absolute hero in this rise to League One and a man Wrexham supporters will love forever… unless he fancies a spell at Chester one day.

Mullin appreciates the support from Wrexham fans and we don’t think that is going to end any time soon.

Wrexham want another striker in January and whilst that will impact Mullin’s playing time, we would back Mullin to have a big say between now and the end of the season.
