Real Madrid Star Vinicius Jr. Throws Shade At Ballon D’Or After Intercontinental Cup

Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. briefly discussed missing out on the Ballon d'Or award at a press conference which followed his team's Intercontinental Cup final triumph in Lusail, Qatar on Wednesday.

Given FIFA's The Best award this week, Vinicius scored Madrid's third and final goal in a 3-0 win over Pachuca which means that it is now the world champion in addition to that of Spain and Europe.

On the Ballon d'Or controversy, where Vinicius was tipped to be the winner of the best male player award in the build-up to France Football's ceremony. only to be pipped to the post by Manchester City's Rodri, the Brazilian insisted that "I live things very calmly".

"Madrid is the biggest club in the world. I haven't lowered my head either and I've continued to work hard. An award that people didn't want to vote for me for isn't going to change what I think, what all my teammates tell me every day. I'm here to play for them and do my best for the biggest jersey in the world," he added.

Vinicius said that it's "been a very nice week for me and for the players who have played with me since I was a child, especially the Real Madrid players, who have done everything for me and help me to do great things for the team. Hopefully we can continue like this for a long time," the winger wished.

On whether Madrid winning more titles than FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid since his arrival has seen him marking an era, Vinicius answered: "I think so."

"The team is following what history demands, which is many titles. Not all players can wear this shirt. We are chosen and we have to enjoy every day."

"We've been crowned as the best club in the world and hopefully we can be like this for a long time. I hope I can continue to make history with this shirt," said the 24-year-old, who has previously been linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
