Liverpool made it through to the semifinals of the Carabao Cup as they secured a 2-1 win against Southamtpon at St Mary’s.
First-half goals from Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott did the trick for the away side, although the Saints enjoyed a much better second half after Cameron Archer halved the deficit.
Trey Nyoni has been in and around the squad under Arne Slot and featured heavily in pre-season as he finally earned his first start for the club against Southampton.
And it’s safe to say he fared quite well as he showed glimpses of his outrageous potential.

Starting in midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Tyler Morton, the 17-year-old wasn’t shy of demanding the ball and saw a lot of it in the opening exchanges of the game.
Nyoni was stationed as Liverpool’s most advanced midfielder and although he didn’t have a shot on goal, he had some neat touches and looked comfortable playing at the top level.
Slot referred to Nyoni as a talent who needs to be nurtured by Liverpool and showed no hesitation in throwing him on against a Premier League quality side, which just goes to show how highly he’s rated.
