What Sandro Tonali signalled towards the Newcastle fans in Brentford win speaks volumes

Sandro Tonali sent a clear message to Newcastle United fans about his future at the club after scoring in the Carabao Cup victory over Brentford.

Newcastle United advanced to the Carabao Cup semi-finals in dominant, comfortable fashion with a 3-1 victory over Brentford on Wednesday night.

Sandro Tonali was the star of the show, bagging a fantastic brace for his first goals for the club in over 16 months.

Fabian Schar sealed Eddie Howe’s side’s place in the final four after poking home Bruno Guimaraes’ unselfish cutback.

Yoane Wissa added a late consolation but the Bees were never in the match as Newcastle went one step closer to Wembley.

Fans were left delighted with Tonali’s performance but will be even happier with what he did after his first goal.

Sandro Tonali gesture appears to end transfer talk

Speculation surrounding Tonali’s Newcastle future has been rife over the past two weeks ahead of the January transfer window opening.

The Italian has been in-and-out of the team this season as he competes with Sean Longstaff for a place and a report from his homeland suggested Tonali is unhappy at Newcastle and wants to leave.

However, Tonali appeared to contradict those claims with his celebration after blasting in the ball from the edge of the box for the opener.

Journalist Mark Douglas reported that Tonali made a ‘heart gesture’ to the crowd, which certainly suggests he’s happy where he is.

Agent denies Tonali wants Newcastle exit

Tonali’s apparent quashing of any suggestion he could leave the North East this winter comes after his agent, Giuseppe Riso, denied reports coming out of Italy last week.

He said: “Sandro is absolutely not considering to return in Serie A.”

“He’s happy at Newcastle, happy to play in the best league in the world and he’s an idol for Newcastle fans who’ve always supported Sandro in every moment.”

It appears fans will be able to rest easy in January and hope for new arrivals rather than fear any departures.
