The case of Jake O’Brien at Everton this season since his summer switch has been quite a curious one.
The Irishman was brought in for around £16.9million in the summer transfer window but he hasn’t yet been afforded much of a chance to prove his worth to Sean Dyche.
Of course, the Toffees have the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski within their ranks but it feels like Dyche should have trusted the centre-back more than he has done thus far.
However, after a recent report from Caught Offside (16 December) reported that Everton are interested in making a £6.5million move for Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof in January, it now feels like there’s no future for O’Brien at Goodison Park whatsoever.

On paper, Everton’s summer business seemed fairly solid with the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Orel Mangala among those who chose to make the switch to Merseyside.

Others such as Jesper Lindstrom and O’Brien were also welcomed with the latter even being mooted to be a potential replacement for Branthwaite if he ended up leaving Everton in the summer.
However, that evidently hasn’t been the case with the former Lyon man only appearing four times for the Toffees this term.

If Lindelof is brought in during the January window it feels likely that O’Brien will be on his way out of the club, whether that be on loan or on a permanent basis.
Of course, these are just rumours at the moment but with the transfer window now imminent, it’s hard to see why Everton wouldn’t consider bolstering their ranks in one way or another.
In other Everton news, the Toffees could sanction an audacious swap deal with Inter Milan for Beto after new developments have emerged.
