Thomas Frank wants to see Newcastle United win the Carabao Cup after his side were beaten 3-0 at St James’ Park.
And Frank is rooting for United against the Premier League’s traditional ‘big six’.
“On the day we met a better team than us, we lost fair and square over the 90 minutes. The main bit I am disappointed with is the defensive side of the game. We gave, in my opinion, three soft goals away which you can’t do when you go away to St James’ Park, they are a great team - I have said that many times.

“Yeah I think they can [win the Carabao Cup]. I said to Eddie that I hope they win it because we need a bit of change, eh? With Liverpool and Arsenal winning and Manchester United and Tottenham to play. Why not give a change, I think It’d mean more to the Newcastle supporters than the rest. I give them my best support.”
Responding to Frank’s comments, United boss Eddie Howe replied: “It’s nice of Thomas but I think we had to just focus on the football. I think we have some big Premier League games in between and I think we have to focus on Ipswich. That’ll come around before we know it.

“We need to be ready for that game now. I think the beauty of going there off the back of the last two games is we go there with renewed confidence and a totally different feeling to where we were before Leicester. It’s been a brilliant response from the players.
“And of course we have the festive period to deal with then we can look forward to the semi-final afterwards.”
Newcastle will learn their semi-final opponents when the draw is made after Tottenham Hotspur versus Manchester United on Thursday night. Matches will take place over two legs across the week commencing January 6 and February 3.
