In The Know reporter details Celtic’s Kieran Tierney raid

Celtic are apparently in pole position to sign Kieran Tierney with The Sun claiming that they are in the driving seat to pull off a deal.

The report is by Derek McGregor, in 2019 he was the reporter that broke the news that Arsenal were keen to sign the defender with a £25m deal eventually agreed.

Tierney made his first appearance of the season tonight in Arsenal’s League Cup win over Crystal Palace, playing until the 67th minute.

Since Brendan Rodgers returned to Celtic in June 2023 there has been speculation that Tierney was in his plans, recently the two men were pictured in conversation at a Celtic Charity Dinner in London.

Tonight The Sun reports:

CELTIC are in pole position to pull off a sensational transfer coup and bring Kieran Tierney back to Parkhead.

It emerged on Wednesday night that Arsenal won’t take up the option to extend the Scotland star’s contract beyond next summer.

That means Tierney can sign a pre-contract with a non-English club as soon as next month.

And now SunSport can reveal Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers – who has been keen to get Tierney back ever since his own return – is poised with a move to take him back to the club where he kicked off his career and won four league trophies.

It’s understood the Parkhead are considering a deal to take the 27-year-old fan favourite home when the transfer window opens next month.

The report adds:

There is sure to be rival interest in his signature from the English Premier League and foreign clubs, with Newcastle United previously strong contenders.

But it’s believed Celtic are firmly in the driving seat to pull off any deal.

It has been reported tonight that Arsenal won’t be taking up the 12 month option on Tierney’s contract meaning that he will be a free agent in the summer.

Greg Taylor and Alex Valle have competed for the left-back position this season but neither is committed beyond the end of this season.
