The latest transfer rumours for Arsenal ahead of the January window.
With just a handful of games left before the world celebrates the turn of the new year, the next stage of focus for the Premier League will be the January transfer window. Clubs will have the opportunity to sign new players in just two weeks’ time to aid their respective season missions.
For Arsenal, they are fixated on closing down their Premier League title rivals after the gap between them and leaders Liverpool stretched to six points. With Manchester City falling into fifth and Chelsea now in the mix instead, the battle at the top of the table is heating up.
Between now and the end of the year, Arsenal will face Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town and Brentford in the league. Ahead of the January window, the Gunners have been linked with some potential new recruits, let’s take a look at some of the latest transfer headlines for Mikel Arteta and co.
Arsenal ‘looking’ at Championship goalkeeper
As things stand, Arsenal only have first choice goalkeeper David Raya on the books in a permanent capacity. Deadline Day loan signing Neto is at the Emirates until the end of the season, so the Gunners are looking at options to bring in as back-up to Raya full-time.

According to journalist Steve Kay, Arsenal are considering a shock January move for Leeds United’s Illan Meslier. The promotion and title hopefuls have also been linked with a busy January as they eye their return to the Premier League. Discussing Arsenal’s potential targets, Kay told YouTube channel KS1 TV: “There’s a few. Arsenal are looking at a goalkeeper. Possibly a goalkeeper could come in in January.
“I have been given a name. The Leeds goalkeeper is someone I’ve been told. I need to look into that. It’s not from one of my top sources if you like, but it’s one we’re keeping an eye on. Illan Meslier.”
Meslier is Leeds’ number one between the sticks but he has been attracting attention from France as well.
Arsenal advised to avoid Rashford
Arsenal are also assessing their options in attack, as summer loan signing Raheem Sterling continues to be questioned. Marcus Rashford has been one of the main names in the headlines after it was revealed that Manchester United had put him on the transfer list ahead of the upcoming windows. Arsenal have been named the third favourite to sign the England international but Arsenal insider Charles Watts has warned the side away from such a deal.
Speaking to CaughtOffside, he said of Rashford: “Do I believe he could present an opportunity for Arsenal? I don’t think so, to be honest. I’m just not sure he’s what they need. If he was still the Rashford of a couple of years ago, then my thoughts would be different. But if that was the case, then he would be playing week in, week out for United right now.
“But he’s not, and there’s a reason for that. So if Arsenal, or anyone else, were to move for him in January, then they would be doing so in the hope that he could rediscover his best form again. It would just be a bit of a gamble. Similar to what Arsenal did with Raheem Sterling in the summer, and that’s certainly not been a gamble that has paid off.”
