Mikel Arteta has revealed that Gabriel Jesus is set to receive more game time this season after the Brazilian striker’s stunning hat-trick secured Arsenal’s 3-2 comeback victory over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
The Gunners trailed early to a Jean-Philippe Mateta goal but rallied in the second half, led by Jesus, to book a place in the competition’s semi-finals. The victory not only kept Arsenal’s silverware hopes alive but also marked a significant turning point for the 27-year-old forward.
Coming into the game, Jesus had managed just one goal in his last 33 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions. However, his treble against Palace reignited his confidence and underlined his quality.
The Brazilian’s first goal came in the 53rd minute, thanks to an incisive pass from substitute Martin Ødegaard. Jesus turned Marc Guehi inside out before delicately chipping the ball over Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

He doubled his tally shortly after, combining with Bukayo Saka, another impactful substitute. A quick turn and precise finish into the far corner showcased Jesus’ sharpness. The hat-trick was completed in the 69th minute, with Jesus racing clear and slotting home his third, sending the Emirates crowd into a frenzy.

Speaking after the match, Arteta praised Jesus for his performance and hinted at a more prominent role for the striker moving forward.
“I’m so pleased for him,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “It’s been a long period for him without goals, and today he scored three incredible goals. The way he created and finished those chances shows the quality he brings to the team.

“This is a moment that can spark his confidence and the team’s belief in him. It’s now about consistency, and we need to give him more games and chances to keep this momentum going.”
Arteta also highlighted the contributions of other squad players, including Kieran Tierney, who made his first Arsenal start in 548 days.
Despite Jesus’ heroics, the Gunners endured a nervy finish after former Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah headed home a late goal for Palace. However, Arteta’s side held firm to secure their second Carabao Cup semi-final appearance in three seasons.
With their cup ambitions intact, Arsenal now shift focus to the Premier League. They face Crystal Palace once again, this time at Selhurst Park, in a London derby on Saturday.
