Arsenal favourites to sign forgotten£30m Chelsea star as Mikel Arteta makes transfer decision

Arsenal will be determined to narrow Liverpool's advantage at the top of the Premier League table this weekend. Crystal Palace will host the Gunners at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon as Oliver Glasner looks to exact his revenge on Mikel Arteta.

The north Londoners came from behind to defeat Palace 3-2 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night. Arsenal stormed past the Eagles at the Emirates Stadium, with Gabriel Jesus netting a somewhat controversial hat-trick.

While Gunners reigned victorious, they appeared to score an 'offside' goal – so the south Londoners are expected to be fired up at the weekend. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Arsenal news and transfer gossip.

Arsenal make Tierney decision

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have decided against activating the option to extend Kieran Tierney's contract. The 27-year-old defender sees his current deal at the Emirates Stadium expire at the end of the season, but the Gunners can trigger a 12-month extension.

The report states that Tierney has been made aware of the club's decision, making him available on a free transfer in the summer. It's said that the Scotland international, who's recently returned from a hamstring injury, has already courted interest from clubs in England.

football.london says: "Had Kieran Tierney not had some rotten luck with injuries, he'd have been a great success at Arsenal. I think he'll go back to Celtic, work on his fitness, build some momentum and then eye one final big move before ending his career in Scotland again."

Arsenal 'favourites' to sign Chelsea star

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal are 'favourites' to sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The 26-year-old midfielder has struggled to force himself into Enzo Maresca's side following his £30m transfer to Chelsea from Leicester City in the summer.

The report states that Fulham, Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on his situation at Stamford Bridge. It's said that the Foxes have also been name-checked as a potential destination.

football.london says: "If Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall wants to go out on loan, then let him. He was never brought in to be a starter – simply a rotation option. If I was Enzo Maresca, I'd want to keep him around just in case Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and/or Romeo Lavia pick up injuries. But Chelsea's loss here could prove to be Arsenal's gain."

Arteta reflects on Jesus impact

Speaking to reporters following Arsenal's 3-2 win over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night, Mikel Arteta was quizzed on Gabriel Jesus' performance and his role in the squad. The Gunners striker netted a superb hat-trick, reminding supporters of his quality.

"I’m so pleased for him," said Arteta. "It’s been a long period for him without goals and today, to score three goals, the three types of goals that he scored - and the many actions he was involved in - he looked very sharp.

"I think it’s a great thing for him and the team that we can rely on a player of such quality," added the Arsenal boss. "He brings something. He has a quality, a way of creating and innovating situations that is quite unique. So Gabi at that level is a big asset for us."

football.london says: "If Mikel Arteta can keep Gabriel Jesus fit, Arsenal could very well leapfrog Liverpool in the title race. He's got that much quality! Kai Havertz has been really disappointing lately and the Gunners need something to jumpstart their season."
