Man Utd can take PSG revenge in January with perk of hiring Ruben Amorim

Finding a buyer for Marcus Rashford in January would solve many of Manchester United's problems.

New manager Ruben Amorim needs new recruits to flesh out his 3-4-2-1 system, and due to PSR, United will only be able to spend big if they raise cash through player sales. Rashford, as a globally-known star, would fetch a handsome transfer fee even in a mediocre spell of form.

But whipping up interest in the 27-year-old, who banks massive wages at Old Trafford, may prove difficult. Paris Saint-Germain have been strongly linked in the past, but with the time finally coming for United to part ways with Rashford, the Parisians have reportedly decided they are no longer keen.

PSG abandoning their Rashford pursuit in United's time of need threatens to leave Amorim in a pickle, and it may force him to auction off other members of his squad in order to raise the cash required to sign players of his own choosing.

Fortunately for the Red Devils, there is a way to take revenge on PSG this winter. According to Sky Germany, the Ligue 1 giants want to extend the deal of their promising young wing-back, Nuno Mendes, beyond the summer of 2026.

But the 22-year-old is stalling on his contract extension due to the calibre of suitors who have come forward. United, who are on the hunt for a new left wing-back, are reportedly among them.

And Amorim has the perfect way in, given that he and Mendes are both represented by football agency AS1. It will therefore be simple for United to keep track of Mendes' situation and find out where his heart is.

The Portuguese international boasts 33 caps and made his Sporting debut in the same year Amorim was appointed manager. He made 47 appearances for the Lisbon club before completing a £34million switch to France in 2022.

Mendes isn't the only wing-back on United's radar. Reports indicate that Theo Hernandez is another of the 'expensive' options being followed by Old Trafford transfer chiefs, and Milan may be forced to let him go, given that he only has 18 months of his contract left to run.

Alphonso Davies is also a player of interest to the Red Devils, and the fact his Bayern Munich deal expires in June means they would be at liberty to discuss a pre-contract agreement from the start of next month.

Signing Davies would be no simple task for United, however, given that Real Madrid are also keen and there remains a chance of him signing new terms in Bavaria.
