Chelsea loanee David Datro Fofana stepped onto the pitch in the 63rd minute of Göztepe SK’s match against Adana Demirspor last weekend, but unfortunately not ten minutes later, he would be leaving on a stretcher after suffering an injury to his left leg.
Initial reports called it a thigh problem (i.e. hamstring) and expected him to be back in just a couple weeks, by January, but unfortunately the situation looks a bit more drastic than that.
In fact, Fofana confirmed last night on his Instagram that he’s undergone successful surgery, and that he’s looking to come back even stronger from this “ordeal”. Given all the love and support from his teammates in the comments and tags, this doesn’t sound very minor at all. While he did not reveal the nature of the injury, the wrapping and icing looks very much like one you would get after a knee operation.
I did find one random ITK account to corroborate that suspicion with a claim that it’s a meniscus problem and that Fofana will be out for four months. Either way, it’s a terrible way to celebrate your 22nd birthday (on Sunday).
The young striker had been part of the regular rotation at Göztepe since joining late in the transfer window, making nine appearances (three starts) and scoring two goals.
Get well soon, DDF!
