Barcelona to hold talks with star attacker over new contract in early 2025 – report

Although the January transfer window is just around the corner, Barcelona are unlikely to pursue any new faces.

The Catalans have made their priorities clear: Extend the contract of existing stars and tie them down to long-term deals.

One of their priorities is to extend the contract of Lamine Yamal, who is widely regarded as one of the most talented players in world football.

Barcelona to begin talks in early 2025

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona are set to engage in contract renewal discussions with Yamal in the early months of 2025.

Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, explicitly affirmed at the Golden Boy gala that Yamal is destined to remain with Barcelona, stating, “Of course, he is going to renew with Barça; Lamine is from Barça.”

Yamal, who has seen his profile and market value soar since the last European Championship, currently has a contract that expires on June 30, 2026, with a preliminary agreement for an extension until 2030 once he turns 18.

However, FIFA regulations lean towards players in such scenarios, treating these agreements more as a statement of intent rather than binding contracts.

Barcelona’s financial constraints are well-documented, with the club aiming to avoid a ballooning wage bill after years of fiscal discipline.

Yet, recognizing Yamal as their crown jewel, Barcelona are prepared to make significant concessions. However, the figures they can offer might still fall short of what Yamal could earn elsewhere.

Nevertheless, the fact remains: Yamal is clear about continuing at Barcelona and the club are determined to make him the face of the team in the years to come.
