The FA Youth Cup Third Round saw two of our own meet at Moatside last night, as Merstham and Burgess Hill Town faced off for the chance to travel to Premier Division giants Chelsea in the next round- and it was the young Moatsiders who triumphed, a three-one win earning them a trip to…well, we suspect Kingsmeadow, as that's where the Blues youth side plays most of its fixtures. Once we have more details we will bring them to you.
To reach this stage the Moatsiders, who started in the Extra Preliminary Round on August 14th, have also defeated Roffey, Farnham Town, Pagham, Sutton Common Rovers, Beaconsfield Town, St Albans City and Forest Green Rovers. They are the lowest ranked side left in the competition, have also had to face the most matches to reach this round, and their achievements are nothing short of magnificent.
Congratulations to Merstham, and enormous commiserations to Burgess Hill, who have also had a wonderful run.
