Arsenal eye Sevilla anchor man as potential Thomas Partey replacement

Arsenal and Thomas Partey’s camp remain engaged in contract renewal talks for the Ghanaian, with just over six months left on his existing deal. However, in the case that does not materialize, Transfersdotcom have reported that the Gunners will explore the possibility of signing Lucien Agoume from Sevilla.

The 22-year-old has been a key member of the Spanish team’s squad this season, and has shown great progress in his game in the last couple of seasons. With Partey having crossed 30 years of age last year, signing a player nine years his junior could be a wise move. Agoume would be able to cover for Partey whenever he does not play, and is a ready-made option for the future.

However, onboarding him will not be an easy task as Sevilla are bound to hold out for a big sum for their prized asset. The Frenchman’s current deal with Sevilla expires in 2028, but the player and his camp will keep one look out for any clubs making an approach in January or the summer.

A tall, strong and powerful midfielder, Agoume came through the youth ranks at Sochaux and Inter Milan. He spent nearly five years with the Italian giants but struggled severely for game time. This resulted in multiple loan spells out to other clubs such as Spezia, Troyes, Brest and Sevilla. He joined the latter in 2024 following a successful loan spell with them the previous season.

Able to play in any midfield role with great success, Agoume seems like the perfect successor for Thomas Partey. Moreover, the Ghanaian has displayed signs of having several injury concerns as well, which has affected how many games he has played for the Gunners.

The club has always been open to letting Thomas Partey leave in order to create space for new signings, and it remains to be seen seen what happens in this saga.
