Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell is set to stay at the club when the Friedkin Group completes their takeover, according to Mark Douglas.
The US investors, spearheaded by Texas businessman Dan Friedkin are set to finalise their deal for Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the club on Thursday (19 December).
Representatives for the new owners are set to attend the clash with Chelsea on Sunday (22 December) according to The Athletic [18 December].
The Northern Football Correspondent for the i news reports that the Friedkin’s are set to keep Thelwell in the role instead of hiring an external candidate.

According to the report, Thelwell is considered as a ‘calming influence’ and has been a crucial part in guiding the club through their hard financial times.

The Welshman has managed to keep hold of Jarrad Branthwaite despite interest from Manchester United and has a solid recruitment record.
However, he has been criticised by Steven Warnock for the purchases of Beto and Youssef Chermiti [Sky Sports News, 16 December, 12:30].

His familiarity with the club and the English game will only serve to help the new ownership as they settle in, so it makes sense to keep him around.
Maybe without the financial insecurity of the Moshiri regime, Thelwell can finally shine in the role and not fight fires on a monthly basis.
His input will crucial in the future direction of the Blues under the Friedkin’s but right now it is an exciting time.
