Arsenal are hopeful of using their links with Riccardo Calafiori to help in their pursuit of Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi in the summer, as per Tuttosport. The Gunners are in the market for a new goalkeeper to provide competition for David Raya.
Mikel Arteta's side beat a number of teams to the signature of Italian defender Calafiori in the summer, landing the former Bologna man reportedly for around £38 million. They tried to add a goalkeeper to their squad after losing Aaron Ramsdale but failed to sign top target Joan Garcia. Instead, they settled for Neto on a season-long loan from Bournemouth.
The Gunners are interested in 24-year-old Italian goalkeeper Carnesecchi, who has established himself as first-choice for Atalanta this season. Arsenal are looking to exploit their relationship with his agent Alessandro Lucci, who facilitated Calafiori's move to the Emirates, to land the goalkeeper.
Carnesecchi has been impressive this season, keeping five clean sheets in Serie A as his side currently lead the way in the league. The promising goalkeeper also impressed when he faced Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League this season, keeping a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw.
Carnesecchi may be reluctant to move to the Emirates Stadium, where David Raya is certainly the undisputed first choice for the side. The goalkeeper may, however, be confident in his chances of upstaging the Spanish shot-stopper and move to England.
Arsenal down Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup
Arsenal pipped fellow London side Crystal Palace in the quarterfinal of the Carabao Cup, winning 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. The Gunners survived an early scare to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition as they look to claim silverware.
Jean-Phillipe Mateta opened the scoring for the visitors after just four minutes, showing strength and composure to finish off a long punt from Dean Henderson. Arsenal had to wait until the second half for a leveler, with Gabriel Jesus dinking them level in the 54th minute after a pass from Martin Odegaard.
Jesus scored his second of the night in the 73rd minute before completing his hat-trick minutes later to put his side in complete control. Former Gunner Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to score for the Eagles in the 85th minute to set up a tense finale, but Arteta's side held on.
