‘Too strong’ – Leeds United vs Oxford United prediction: The72

Leeds United host Oxford United in their upcoming Championship clash on Saturday at Elland Road.

Leeds United are currently sat in 2nd position in the table behind Sheffield United as they eye promotion back to the Premier League. They have lost only three games so far this season.

Daniel Farke’s side drew 1-1 away at Preston North End in their last outing. They scored a last-gasp equaliser at Deepdale to take a share of the spoils.

The Whites have been strong on their own patch in this campaign and will be eager to keep their momentum going. They have lost only once there this term to Burnley.

As for Oxford United, they have made the surprise decision to cut ties with Des Buckingham recently. They were promoted from League One earlier this year after they beat Bolton Wanderers in the play-off final at Wembley.

The U’s are 20th in the league and their decision to sack Buckingham has raised eyebrows. They were beaten 3-1 by Sheffield Wednesday at the Kassam Stadium last time out.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

“Leeds United should be too strong for Oxford United if they show up for this one. The Whites have been very impressive at home this season and have made Elland Road a fortress.

“The U’s will have to be at their best to get anything in West Yorkshire this weekend. Their decision to sack Buckingham has raised eyebrows and the club’s hierarchy will be praying that it pays off for them.

“They are winless in their last six matches and have seen their form slump recently. For that season, I can’t see anything other than a home win here.”

Prediction: Leeds United 2-0 Oxford United

James Ray

“New manager or not, it’s hard to see Oxford United getting anything here.

“Leeds United are lethal on home turf and in good form overall, though they will have hoped to get more from a bit of a bogey fixture away at Preston North End. Nevertheless, they remain in a great position and have a very winnable game here.

“A new managerial appointment before the game may make things a little more unpredictable but I’ll be backing the Whites to win either way.”

Prediction: Leeds United 3-0 Oxford United
