Report: Chelsea could sell £17m youngster next month despite him having trained with first team

Chelsea could sell or loan quite a few of their young players next month when the transfer window opens.

Having barely played under Enzo Maresca this season, the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei are both thought to be available.

Deivid Washington, who has not featured for Chelsea’s first team at all in the current campaign, could also be heading for the exit door.

Last month, it was reported that Washington is open to rejoining Santos on loan. Chelsea signed Washington from Santos in a £17m deal last year.

Deivid Washington could leave Chelsea permanently

Before their 3-1 win against Astana, Washington was allowed to train with the Chelsea first team.

However, it does not look like the 19-year-old has a long-term future with Maresca’s group.

According to ESPN, Chelsea could loan or sell Washington next month, which could benefit the Brazilian.

Again, Washington has not played a single minute of football under Maresca and has only been named in Chelsea’s matchday squad once.

Who else could leave Chelsea in January?

Washington is not the only Chelsea player who looks to be heading to the Stamford Bridge exit door.

The same ESPN report claims that both Chukwuemeka and Casadei are available, while Lucas Bergstrom could depart on loan or be sold.

In terms on incomings, Chelsea are not expected to be busy, which is not a surprise. Maresca has a very good squad that is performing right now.

The team’s attack is flourishing especially, with Chelsea being the top scorers in the Premier League. It is one reason why Washington is not getting a look-in.

All in all, if the former Santos forward wants to play some first-team football this season, then he needs to leave Chelsea when the transfer window opens.

He has not got that under Maresca so far, and there is nothing to suggest that that will change in the second half of the campaign.
