West Ham United fans were looking forward to the 2024-25 season after a promising summer transfer window.
However, the Hammers’ campaign in the English top-flight has turned out to be completely different to the supporters’ expectations.
Instead of competing for European places, West Ham have been languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table after a series of disappointing results.
They have been sorely missing a top-class striker, with summer signing Niclas Fullkrug rarely available due to his fitness issues.
Julen Lopetegui’s side could look to reinforce their attack in January, and they have been linked with an interest in Middlesbrough star Emmanuel Latte Lath.
However, in a big transfer blow, manager Michael Carrick has said that they have no intention of selling the 25-year-old.
He said (per The Sun): “Nothing has changed from our point of view.
“We’re in a good place. We have a good group, good squad and good team. Manu has played well when he’s played. I’m calm about that. We’re pretty happy with how things are.
“It [the speculation] has not come from us. That’s kind of it really”.
West Ham must sign a striker
Michail Antonio was involved in a horrific car accident earlier this month.
The Jamaica international is now recovering in a hospital, but he is unlikely to play for at least a year.
West Ham have Fullkrug back from injury, but they must add another centre-forward to save their season.
Jarrod Bowen can spearhead the attack but it is not his natural position.
Danny Ings can also operate as a striker, but he is on the wrong side of 30 and isn’t a reliable goalscorer.
Latte Lath could be a good signing for the Hammers. The Ivorian endured a difficult start to the season but has rediscovered his form recently, scoring seven goals in 11 games.
However, Middlesbrough turned down a £20 million offer from Ipswich Town for the forward last summer.
And Carrick has reiterated they haven’t changed their stance regarding the player.
