Ever since it became clear that Marcus Rashford could leave Manchester United in the near future, talk of a move to Arsenal has refused to go away.
Over the years, Arsenal are thought to have shown tentative interest in Rashford, admiration that may stem from Mikel Arteta himself.
Arsenal haven’t been adverse to signing struggling Premier League talent under Arteta – they paid big money to take Kai Havertz from Chelsea for example.
And with Arteta’s side struggling in attack right now, many have questioned whether Rashford could be the answer.
On their part, Man United are willing to loan Rashford next month, meaning a move for interested sides has suddenly become a lot more realistic.
Jamie Carragher suggests that Marcus Rashford doesn’t deserve Arsenal move
Speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, both Gary Neville and Ian Wright discussed the possibility of Rashford signing for Arsenal alongside Jill Scott and Jamie Carragher.
Neville and Wright were in agreement that Arsenal should be considering the move, but Carragher was on the complete opposite side of the fence.
In a hotly-debated back and forth, Neville started the chat by saying: “Would he [Rashford] improve Arsenal up-front?
Wright replied: “On the left side, yeah.”
Neville: “Arsenal need a striker. Someone who can score goals. Would he be in a team that is better and more compact defensively, they have a good spirit and a good way.
“For instance you think Raheem Sterling has gone there. Could Arsenal? Arsenal need a striker.”

Scott asked: “Do you like him as a striker?”
Neville: “No, I don’t like him as a striker but my point is Thierry Henry – and I’m not saying he’s Henry – but you can be a striker who veers towards one side.”
Carragher added: “We had that conversation for 10 years and it didn’t happen!
Neville: “He scored 30 goals in two seasons!”
Carragher: “He played for Man United! He had a three or four game spell under Ten Hag and it was counter attack. He has been a very good player for Man United and a very good Premier League player but it’s not like Salah, Mane, Saka.
Wright: “I think he has that capability.”
Carragher: “He hasn’t! He’s 27. What are we waiting for?”

Wright: “27 is not a age to be writing someone off. He has the capability.”
Neville: “If I throw some players at you, the likes of Gakpo and Trossard who are playing regularly. Players of that ilk who are playing at these big clubs, is he not at that ilk?”
Wright: “I think he is somebody in a different dressing room with a different environment around him, he has the ability.
Carragher: “He has got the ability but he doesn’t run. Just run back. He doesn’t run back and help his full-back.
Wright: “He doesn’t run at Man United. He needs a different challenge.”
Arsenal not interested in Marcus Rashford
Unfortunately for those hoping that such a deal could happen, Arsenal have no interest in signing Rashford next month or at any point in the future.
Arsenal can afford Rashford, one of the few teams that can, but the club are focusing their future endeavours elsewhere.
And perhaps had they been asked, all of the pundits mentioned would suggest that Arsenal were better off trying their money to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for example.
That’s never going to be easy, or cheap, but the juice ultimately could be worth the squeeze for the Gunners, who would be signing a player in their prime rather than trying to revive another career.
