Rangers potentially selling Hamza Igamane to Everton in January would be an unpopular sign that the new player trading model is working at Ibrox.

TBR Football reported on 17 December that Everton scouts were in attendance at the Gers’ 1-1 draw with Tottenham on 12 December, in which Igamane took the roof off Ibrox by scoring the opening goal.

The 22-year-old only arrived from FAR Rabat for £1.7million in the summer, but his form in Light Blue has seen him become a staple in Philippe Clement’s side as results have improved.

Igamane is already a fan favourite at Ibrox, but with the club in dire financial straits and having made their player trading model a key part of their transfer strategy, selling the Moroccan could be on the cards.

The Bears are currently in no position to be turning down big-money bids for their key players – regardless of how recently they arrived – having netted just £810,000 from five sales in the summer.

Igamane may have emerged as a shining light for the Light Blues, but if Everton were to offer a fee north of eight figures for the soon-to-be Moroccan international, the Ibrox hierarchy would likely say yes.

Philippe Clement

Philippe Clement has often emphasised the importance of the player trading model at Rangers

Fans would be gutted to see their new hero depart for pastures new after barely six months, but even Clement himself made clear in the summer that no player is off the table when it comes to transfers.

The Belgian may have emphasised that Jack Butland was the exception to the rule, but having overseen the summer rebuild, he knows better than most that selling star players is par for the course.

Everton are hardly a cash-rich club themselves, but with Premier League millions south of the border on offer, fans will have to accept the hard truth that Rangers’ transfer policy relies on buying low to sell high.
