Dominic King believes hiring Jose Mourinho to replace Sean Dyche would be the “worst thing Everton could do” under the Friedkin Group.

The Friedkin’s takeover is said to be a “done deal”, as per Paul Brown, with just an official statement left to be released and rumours are now starting to fly about what they could implement at Goodison Park.

Dyche has been under immense pressure following a tough start to the 2024/25 campaign for the Toffees, and Mourinho is already a figure who has been linked and dismissed from the manager role [Liverpool Echo].

Speaking live via talkSPORT [19 December, 8:39am], King said: “That would be an unbelievable headline. That would be an incredible headline. That would be the absolute worst thing Everton could do.

“No disrespect to Jose Mourinho but he’s a man in his 60s now. He’s had his time and he’s had a brilliant career. Everton need young, dynamic, someone who can shape the team.

“They need David Moyes from 2002 – a manager of that ilk, who will drive the players and be ambitious.”

Jose Mourinho to Everton already squashed?

Evertonians are about to receive the news that they have all been dreaming of over the last few months, though some have been hoping for Farhad Moshiri’s exit far longer than that.

The 69-year-old billionaire has been a controversial figure during his time on Merseyside, and few will be upset to see him go and be replaced by the Friedkins, who have plenty of footballing experience.

However, supporters will fear that if Dyche is let go by the new owners, who might be the figure to replace him at the helm, especially given their AS Roma links in Serie A.

Mourinho, who has previous experience in the Premier League with Tottenham and Chelsea, and history with TFG at Roma, the possibility of a move to Merseyside has already crossed the minds of many.

The majority of fans will share the same opinion as King – don’t do it.

In other Everton news, Farhad Moshiri’s destruction is clear for all to see amid a new £50m claim at Goodison.
