Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has urged the club to make an audacious move to sign Arsenal star Declan Rice. He believes that the Englishman would make the Red Devils a stronger side under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United will look to revamp their squad under Amorim with new signings in the upcoming transfer windows. Speaking recently to TalkSPORT, Sheringham urged the club to make a sensational move for Rice.
He said (via TeamTalk):
"I said a couple of years ago, Manchester United should have got Declan Rice.
“If they went out and bought Declan Rice off of Arsenal, that’d make me laugh, because that’d obviously make Arsenal weaker and make United even stronger."
Sheringham added:
“He’s a proper player that leads by example. That’s the type of player that you need in your football club.
“When you’re making a statement about a new manager coming in and buying new players, that is the type of player you buy. Declan Rice all day.”
Manchester United were reportedly linked to Declan Rice under manager Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer, but a move failed to materialize. Rather, he joined Arsenal two seasons ago in a reported club-record deal of £105 million.
The Englishman was one of the Premier League's highly rated midfielders before joining the Gunners, and he has proved his mettle at the North London club. With Rice playing a starring role in Mikel Arteta's setup, Arsenal have become title contenders, finishing as runners-up behind Manchester City in the last two seasons.
The 25-year-old is one of Arsenal's key players and is contracted to the club until 2028. As such, it is difficult to envisage a move to the Manchester club in the near future. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that he will make a good addition to Amorim's side if the deal were to happen.
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford left out of squad for EFL clash with Tottenham Hotspur
Marcus Rashford has reportedly been left out of Manchester United's matchday squad for their EFL Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday (December 19).
According to Manchester Evening News, the 27-year-old will not be involved in the clash that will go down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Rashford was earlier omitted from the squad for their 2-1 Manchester derby win over Manchester City on Sunday (December 12).
This recent happenings have led to rumours of Rashford's possible exit from the club. The Englishman has struggled to hit top form this season, managing seven goals and three assists in 24 games across competitions this season.
