Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle prize money confirmed after reaching Carabao Cup semi-final

Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United became the first sides to reach the Carabao Cup semi-final this season on Wednesday.

With Tottenham vs Manchester United still to come on Thursday, a hat-trick from Gabriel Jesus secured a 3-2 win for Arsenal over Crystal Palace, while goals from Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott ensured Liverpool triumphed by a narrow 2-1 scoreline over Southampton.

On Tyneside, a double from Sandro Tonali fired Newcastle to a 3-1 victory over Brentford.

While silverware is the ultimate aim for these three semi-finalists, they have also secured some prize money for making it to the last four of the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool receive modest cash prize

Unlike the UEFA Champions League – where Liverpool secured millions after becoming the first side to progress into the Round of 16 – the English Football League (EFL) offer much less in the way of prize money.

Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool will receive just £25,000 for reaching the last four of the Carabao Cup – according to the Sunderland Echo.

First round winners – £5,000

Second round winners – £7,000

Third round winners – £10,000

Fourth round winners – £15,000

Quarter-finalists – £25,000

Semi-finalists – £25,000

Runner-up – £50,000

Winner – £100,000

Of course, a £25,000 sum is a mere drop in the ocean for Premier League clubs. In fact, it wouldn’t even cover a day of Mohamed Salah’s £350,000-a-week salary.

Nevertheless, the Premier League trio are not playing to win the ultimate £100,000 cash prize – with the lure of a trophy obviously the main target.

When is the Carabao Cup semi-final draw?

Liverpool, Newcastle and Arsenal, who admire Illan Meslier, find out their semi-final opponents after Thursday’s clash between Tottenham and Manchester United.
