Brighton are set to be without Danny Welbeck for their Premier League clash against West Ham United on Saturday, according to Ben Dinnery.

The Injury expert shared via his personal X account (19 December) that while Welbeck is absent for their clash on 21 December both Joel Veltman and Matt O’Riley are set to return to the squad.

The Hammers are hoping to go into the Christmas with the gift of three points and the continued absence of Welbeck is a blow to the Seagulls at the London Stadium.

“Joel Veltman and Matt O’Riley will return to the matchday squad on Saturday, but Danny Welbeck is still struggling with the ankle injury he suffered against Southampton,” the injury expert wrote.

“Adam Webster has returned to the training pitches.”

Why Danny Welbeck being injured is a boost for West Ham United

At the start of the 2024/25 season, West Ham were expected to be challenging for the European places in the Premier League but instead, they’re currently sat in 14th place.

Welbeck has been in impressive form for the Seagulls once again this term with the attacker contributing to eight goals across all competitions this far.

While Fabian Hurzeler has the likes of Joao Pedro to call up upon to lead the line for the visitors, Welbeck has been an extremely important contributor when he’s been available this season.

At the moment, it feels like the game could go either way but the Hammers have had home wins over Newcastle United and Wolves in the last month so will feel like they are equipped to get the job done.

The thing that has plagued the Hammers has been their inconsistency, though, and Lopetegui simply has to start getting a regular tune out of his players.
