Celtic will receive a reduced allocation when they make for Aston Villa in the Champions League in the New Year, it has been claimed. Villa welcome the Bhoys to the Second City on the 29th of January for what will be their final group game of the eight-match first phase of the competition.

Both sides have live chances, too, of qualifying to the next round; for Villa, they're aiming for a top eight finish which would mean automatic progress to the last 16 - to do so, they'll need to continue picking up positive results, against Monaco and Celtic, as they have done throughout their campaign so far. Celtic, meanwhile, are 21st having lost just one of their six games and a top 24 finish is very achievable.

It's expected to be another capacity crowd in B6 to watch a clash between two British sides, as has been the case for Villa's other home meetings with Bayern Munich, Bologna and Juventus, but Celtic will supposedly be permitted as many as 400 fewer tickets than it's claimed they were promised.

John Paul Taylor, the Supporter Liaison Officer of Celtic, has suggested that the Glasgow visitors will have only 2,100 tickets in the away end when supporters planning to attend were under the impression that the number of fans permitted in the away end would be a relatively greater size.

Responding to a fan on X who suggested that the away section was a 2972 capacity, Taylor said: "We won't get that, they initially indicated c. 2500 but then said 2100. Now West Mids Police are getting involved and could be further reduced, we are waiting on an update from them, will update as soon as we know."
