Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk could face a ban if reports coming out of Ukraine of him Failing a Doping test are true. Professional football is a fiercely competitive business. It relies very much on skill and real dedication, and competition plays a fundamental part. But doping occasionally casts its spectre over the sport.
Chelsea’s young winger, Mykhailo Mudryk, becomes the newest controversy. Ukrainian media reports say Mudryk failed a doping test. The ripples from this news have rippled through the football community. Asking serious questions about the player’s future and the future of the sport.
This reflects the firm stand that any sport maintains and continues to battle the stroke of doping. The long tiresome testing that it takes to ensure fair play. This case will have a big impact on the outcome for Mudryk, Chelsea and beyond.
An ongoing doping controversy produced on reports in Ukrainian media outlets — each saying different sources — surrounds Mykhailo Mudryk. According to these reports, the A-sample taken from Mudryk in late October later came back positive for a banned substance.
Who knows what the precise substance is added to, further clouding the issue. We’re not clear on the test timing, whether it was Premier League or UEFA. As a rule, UEFA imposes stricter anti-doping regulations than the domestic league.
His absence from Chelsea’s squad of late only adds fuel to the speculation. After an appearance on November 28, he has appeared in no matchday squads since December 1. The reasons for his absence are illness, and the club has been reluctant to expand on this, but there have been no clear updates.
BREAKING 🚨‼️@tribunaua reporting that as per their sources – Mykhaylo Mudryk has tested positive in a doping test…
In the "A" sample, a banned substance was found. That test was taken at the end of October.

Mykhailo Mudryk Could be banned for Doping
However, it’s also worth noting that Mudryk hasn’t been a regular starter at Chelsea. So it’s hard to say that the omission of Mykhailo Mudryk is down to the alleged doping violation.
All parties are now waiting for the results of the B sample. This second test will confirm or deny the first. However, if the B sample of an athlete proves that he had any banned substance in his blood, the athlete will be disciplined. But if it is negative the matter may be dropped.
What could happen to Mudryk is serious.
He could face a lengthy ban from the game if the doping violation is confirmed. The ban’s length is determined in part by the substance involved, it was a first offence, and any mitigating circumstances. Of course, recent cases, like Paul Pogba, prove that these are very serious offences.
DHEA was the substance that ruled Pogba to a four-year ban later reduced on appeal. For example, in this case, we see the scope and impact that doping violations can have on one’s career and financial future. But for Chelsea, a confirmed doping violation would have been a huge blow.
This would have deprived them of a player, as well as damaging the club’s reputation. That would also mean the club’s substantial investment in Mudryk would be at risk. This case will also have implications for the anti-doping efforts in football.
Doping is a crime
Sending out a strong warning to deter would mean a strong punishment for those behind the dope. If those reports do prove false it could expose media reporting to increased scrutiny and damage to individual news outlets.
The football community will be watching this situation closely as the B-sample results come through and the relevant authorities decide the outcome. The case is also important to reinforce education and prevent doping in sports.
The FA contacted Chelsea about an adverse finding in a routine urine test and asked us to conduct a follow-up, hence the statement, Chelsea has confirmed. Mudryk and the club fully support the FA’s testing program.
Author’s Opinion
Mudryk says he has never knowingly taken banned substances. In My View, Authorities will work with these men to find the cause of the finding. The club won’t comment further. In a sense, such a statement is as confirmation that something is up with it beyond media guessing. What comes next in the days and weeks ahead will be key.
