John Obi Mikel shares what surprised him about Behdad Eghbali after meeting him at Chelsea vs Brentford

Of the two men who have controlling ownership of Chelsea, one of them has certainly come under far scrutiny than the other for his role at the club.

Todd Boehly has frequently been on the end of criticism for the part he has played in the rebuild at Stamford Bridge, which was struggling to show its teeth until this season.

The likes of Gary Lineker have hinted that they may owe the Chelsea owners an apology for their judgement of the project, with them currently sat in second in the league.

There are two men at the helm though, with Behdad Eghbali having far less coverage than the American.

Eghbali was reportedly key to Chelsea’s interest in Pedro Neto, with them completing the signing over the summer.

Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel was invited to the last game against Brentford to watch with the owner, and admitted he was surprised at his knowledge of the game despite what many may think.

He said on the ‘Obi One Podcast’: “I got invited by the club, we watched the game, great game, and it’s nice to be there in the owner’s box.

“Behdad – lovely guy. I got to meet him for the first time. Absolute gentleman. A guy with so much charisma, very entertaining guy. It was good to spend time with him. There was a lot that we spoke about, a lot of good conversations. He knows his audience, he knows the game and he knows what he wants to do with the football club.

“Very knowledgeable, and that’s something that took me by surprise. When I started talking about football, he knows a lot about the game. He was talking to me about the game, about tactics, about different things, and also about being the owner of Chelsea Football Club.”

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali rift

It was reported earlier this season that there had been some form of disagreement between Boehly and Eghbali regarding their roles at the club.

In a meeting it was claimed that both parties accepted something had to change, however neither were willing to give up their part in the ownership.

Talk has gone quiet as a result of performances drastically improving on the pitch, and the state Chelsea are in right now it would be difficult to imagine anyone wanting to leave the project at this stage.
