Gabriel Jesus delivered a sensational hat-trick to inspire Arsenal to a 3-2 comeback victory over Crystal Palace, securing a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. However, controversy surrounded his second goal, with replays suggesting a possible offside position.
Jean-Philippe Mateta handed Palace an early lead in the fourth minute, capitalising on a defensive error by Jakub Kiwior. The visitors held firm to preserve their one-goal advantage heading into the break at the Emirates.
Arsenal responded strongly in the second half, with substitute Martin Ødegaard playing a pivotal role. The Norwegian’s clever pass set up Jesus, who coolly dinked the ball over Dean Henderson in the 54th minute to level the score.

Twenty minutes later, the Brazilian striker struck again, this time converting a pinpoint pass from Bukayo Saka. The goal, however, raised questions about a potential offside, a controversy that could not be reviewed due to the absence of VAR in the competition. VAR will, however, be available in the semi-finals and final, scheduled for March 16 at Wembley Stadium.

Palace substitute Eddie Nketiah, returning to his former club, reduced the deficit with a well-taken header, but Arsenal held firm to secure the win.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised Jesus’ performance, saying:“He looked really sharp. It is a great thing for him and a great thing for the team. He has a quality, a way of creating and generating situations that is quite unique. Gabi at that level is a big asset for us.”
The draw for the semi-finals will take place following Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Manchester United on Thursday evening. The two-legged semi-finals are set to be played in the weeks commencing January 6 and February 3.
