“The idea is he’ll leave” – Santiago Gimenez’s father on transfer plans after Nottingham Forest snub

Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez is still looking to leave the club in the near future, with a transfer still planned after the drama with Nottingham Forest in the summer.

That’s according to his father, who has been speaking to Mexico’s [Record](https://www.record.com.mx/futbol-futbol-internacional-internacionales/chaco-gimenez-habla-sobre-el-destino-de-su-hijo-santiago) about the striker’s plans for the future to after he nearly left in the summer transfer window.

Gimenez was heavily linked with a move away from Feyenoord throughout the window after shining in the Netherlands in the last few years.

Nottingham Forest were the side who pushed hardest for him, making several bids to sign the Mexican as they sough to satisfy their longstanding desire to sign a striker.

Gimenez eventually turned down the move, though, wanting to join a bigger club that one who had finished 17th in the Premier League last season.

That’s a decision he may now regret as Nottingham Forest sit fourth in the table this year and just two points behind third placed Arsenal.

The striker has made it clear over the last few months why he turned down the move and his thinking on the future, and his father has now made their plans abundantly clear also.

“Because of how he came back after the injury (scoring goals), he activated the market again,” he said.

“I think there was already follow-up from some teams on Santiago, but I don’t really know if he is going to come, but there is follow-up. Santi has already been two and a half years at the club, the club is open to listening if there is an offer, but hey, we have to be calm.

“The market is going to move a little, I hope it can happen, if not, Santi is very happy at Feyenoord, but yes, the idea is that can get out.”
