Bayern make Chelsea’s path clear to sign Portugese star

Bayern Munich have provided Chelsea with a major boost in the pursuit of Portugese star. The latest decision taken by German giants may benefit the Blues.

The star in question is Diogo Costa who is very highly rated in Europe. The 25 year old has recently established himself as one of the best shot stoppers. He is a main player for both Porto and Portugal national team.

Costa was on the radar of both Chelsea and Bayern. The 25 year old was being viewed as a replacement to the main keepers of the interested clubs. The player too was reported to be interested to join a top club.

Bayern hand Chelsea with boost in pursuit of Diogo Costa

Journalist Florian Plettenberg recently tweeted that Bayern are planning to extend contract of Manuel Neuer. It is now confirmed by Max Eberl that the new contract running until 2026 will be signed. Plettenberg added that Neuer is highly motivated to continue and will return from rib injury in January.

Chelsea will look at this news as potential boost in the pursuit of Costa. They will now have less competition and the player too can join them considering the fact that he will have more chances to play at West London than at Munich.

Do Chelsea need Diogo Costa?

Firstly, the Blues are doing really well this season. They are on 2nd position in Premier League. In addition, they are tables toppers in Conference League. But, there are still some issues that need resolving soon.

The Blues have lacked a spark in defence. They have failed to keep clean sheets and Robert Sanchez is often blamed due to being relatively poor at goalkeeping. As of now, Costa will surely be an upgrade on Sanchez.

The Portugese keeper has been in superb form for Porto this season. He has kept 9 clean sheets in 14 league games. The 25 year old has improved to a vast extent in recent years and will be able to improve the Chelsea’s backline in similar way.
