Sentimental Moyes reunion now a real possibility for West Ham after brutal sack decision

David Moyes left West Ham United at the end of last season, with Julen Lopetegui coming in to replace him.

In all fairness to David Moyes, he worked wonders in charge of West Ham, but in the end it was clear for everyone to see that his time at the club had come to a natural end.

The 61-year-old Scot brought a major trophy to West Ham for the first time since 1980 – the first time in my lifetime – and I will forever be grateful to him for that.

However, the football became utterly turgid under Moyes in the end, and there was a real danger of things turning toxic, which nobody wanted to happen.

The Scot left the London Stadium for the second time seven months ago, although he has apparently made it very clear that he’d be open to a third stint in charge of the Hammers.

The experienced manager has been out of work since the day he left West Ham.

And now an emotional return could be on the cards for Moyes and the Hammers, but not in the way you might think.

The Scot completely transformed us as a club during his second stint in charge at the London Stadium.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

The reason why we all have such high expectations now is because of him and the work he did at the club.

And it might not be too long before we once again see Moyes up very close and personal.

According to a report from The Guardian, Southampton could be prepared to go down a different route regarding the appointment of a new manager.

The Saints could opt to bring in someone like Moyes in a bid to change the philosophy completely after Russel Martin’s struggles this season.

Martin was sacked after Sunday’s humiliation at home to Tottenham, and now Moyes could be the man to pick up the pieces.

And a sentimental reunion could now be on the cards for West Ham if Moyes gets the St Mary’s job, with Southampton set to play host to the Hammers on Boxing Day.

It would be incredibly emotional for the West Ham fans, and many of the players to see Moyes in the opposition dug-out, after so many fond memories of him in the Hammers hot-seat.

Sure, his tenure at the London Stadium ended acrimoniously after David Sullivan pulled the plug on a contract that he had offered Moyes at the end of December last year.

However, it’s impossible to forget the good times we had that were only made possible by the Scot.

The last thing West Ham need when we head to St Mary’s is for David Moyes to be in the Southampton dug-out, that’s for sure.
