The leader of Liverpool Council has spoken of a desire to work with Everton’s new owners through their “exciting new chapter” for the club. Cllr Liam Robinson said the purchase of the Toffees by The Friedkin Group, confirmed earlier today, would bring “a fresh energy and new sense of direction” to the club.
The American group received the go-ahead from the Premier League to complete the takeover having initially walked away from a deal in the summer. After a proposed move with 777 Partners collapsed, fresh terms were agreed with the Texan-based firm.
Cllr Robinson revealed how he had met with club directors throughout the takeover process and was keen to meet with members of The Friedkin Group to discuss their plans for the Blues ahead of a monumental move to Bramley-Moore Dock next summer. The transaction was finalised following an agreement between Farhad Moshiri’s Blue Heaven Holdings (BHH) and Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, an entity within The Friedkin Group for the sale of BHH’s majority stake in the club.
The city council chief said: “I warmly welcome the news that Everton Football Club has finally been bought. Having new owners will bring a fresh energy and a new sense of direction to the club at a critical time as it prepares to move away from Goodison Park to Bramley-Moore Dock.
“I’ve had regular meetings with club directors and fully appreciate how much time and effort has gone into the sale to Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, which is part of the Friedkin Group. I look forward to meeting the new owners to hear their plans in detail and explore how Liverpool Council can work with them on this exciting new chapter for Everton FC.”
The completion of the deal draws a line under a protracted takeover saga for the Premier League club and brings to an end the eight-year tenure of Farhad Moshiri at Goodison Park. Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram - a Liverpool fan - said the change in ownership in L4 was “quite a Christmas present” for Evertonians and marked a fresh start for the club.
He said: “Everton are part of the fabric of English football. This new era is great news for the club, fans and our wider region.
“Hopefully this allows them to turn the page and look forward to a brighter 2025.”
