Nottingham Forest have been given the green light to make a fresh transfer bid for Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez in January.
The Reds failed in a bid to land the Mexico international striker during the summer. Gimenez is said to have turned down the chance to move to the City Ground over fears of joining a relegation battle in the Premier League.
But the Reds have defied all expectation so far this season and currently sit in fourth place in the table, ahead of champions Manchester City and behind Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. It means Gimenez might now be open to joining Forest - and a battle towards the top end of the Premier League - when the January transfer window opens.
Gimenez has been in prolific goalscoring form for Feyenoord once again so far this season, with eight goals in 13 matches, including a strike against Manchester City in the Champions League. And his dad, Christian Gimenez, has told Mexico’s Record he can leave the Eredivisie club.
"I think there was already some monitoring by some teams about Santiago, but I don't really know if he's going to come, but there is monitoring,” he said. “Santi has been at the club for two and a half years, the club is open to listening to if there is an offer, but well, we have to stay calm.
“The market is going to move a little, hopefully it can happen, if not, Santi is very happy at Feyenoord, but yes, the idea is that he can leave.”
