Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has stated that he is tired of finishing second and wants to win a trophy this season. The Gunners finished behind Manchester City in the Premier League in the last two seasons.

Mikel Arteta's team registered a club-record 28 wins in the league last campaign and scored a club-record 91 goals. However, they were pipped to the title by City on the final day of the season.

Speaking to The BBC, as cited by The Metro, Saka stated that the north London side are ready to compete for silverware this season.

“It’s horrible man, I’ll be honest. Finishing runners-up in two European finals for England and runners-up twice in the Premier League with Arsenal. It is that extra fuel for me, that extra motivation for me. I definitely want to get it over the line this season and try and lift a trophy for sure,” said Saka.

He continued:

“We are not scared to say we want to win. We feel we are ready to compete for a trophy. This season we really want to take the next step and win something.”

Arsenal are third in the Premier League table this season after 16 games, six points behind current leaders Liverpool, who has played a game less. The Gunners have won eight and lost twice in the league so far, scoring 29 goals and conceding 15.

Bukayo Saka is the only player remaining from Mikel Arteta's first starting XI against Bournemouth in December 2019. The Arsenal manager has made multiple changes since taking charge five years ago but Saka has been a constant in his team.

The Englishman rose through the ranks at the Emirates Stadium, breaking into the first team in 2018. He has since registered 67 goals and 63 assists from 249 appearances across competitions for the Gunners.

The 23-year-old reached the 2018-19 Europa League final but ended up on the losing side. He won his first trophy with the north London side in Arteta's first season in charge.

The Spanish manager guided the north London side to the FA Cup triumph in the 2019-20 campaign. Saka has also won the Community Shield in 2020 and 2023 with Arsenal.

However, the Gunners haven't won the Premier League in two decades. Their last league win came in 2004 when the famous Invincibles side went the entire season unbeaten.
