Sean Dyche will be frustrated at the latest news regarding potential Everton transfer target Valentin Atangana.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X [19 December], the exciting 19-year-old has signed a new contract with current club Reims until the summer of 2027, essentially ruling out a January switch.
Romano did, however, note that interest was strong and would continue from several clubs, as the Toffees brace for competition if they want to lure the French Under-21 international to the gleaming new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium next summer.
As revealed by Alan Nixon [1 December], Everton were among 26 clubs – including Tottenham and Aston Villa – watching Atangana in a recent game for the Ligue 1 side, though it was not specified which contest.
Everton have new backing to attract Atangana in summer
It is evident Reims have secured Atangana to what will be a much-improved contract to protect themselves in the near future, and should as a result be able to keep hold of their coveted starlet until at least the summer.

The fee could be sizeable for the teenage talent, but Everton are now under new financial backing following Thursday’s formal completion of The Friedkin Group takeover.
With the aim to maintain stability and remain in the Premier League this season before the imminent stadium move, Everton will gradually seek to become the European competitor they once were, which as a by-product would bring a glitzy array of new arrivals.

The Toffees still appear to be in the market for a midfielder, after Amadou Onana was sold to Villa and Andre Gomes left on a free transfer in the summer.
Through a mix of form and injuries, Orel Mangala and Tim Iroegbunam have not quite had the effect Dyche would have liked, and the club are seeking more central firepower to assist the creative players ahead of them.
In other Everton news, Gabby Agbonlahor makes a bold claim on Dyche at the end of the season.
