Where Chelsea rank for most shots on target per game in the Premier League this season

A major positive about Chelsea since Enzo Maresca took charge as the head coach in the summer is they’ve become a free-scoring side.

In 16 Premier League games so far this season, Chelsea have netted 37 goals. It actually makes them the top scorers across the entire division.

Cole Palmer (11) and Nicolas Jackson (nine) have massively contributed to the Blues’ league goals this campaign, but they do still look a threat all over the pitch.

Chelsea’s Palmer leads the Premier League in four attacking departments in December. There’s nobody in the division that has scored more, attempted more shots, had more shots on target, or created more chances than the Blues attacker this month.

Where Chelsea rank for most shots on target per game

WhoScored data records that Chelsea are currently top of the division for the most shots on target per match (6.3) in the ongoing 2024/25 Premier League season.

Clubs Shots on target per game

Chelsea 6.3

Liverpool 6.2

Tottenham 6.1

Manchester City 5.9

Bournemouth 5.5

Arsenal 5.2

Brentford 5.0

Manchester United 4.9

West Ham 4.8

Fulham 4.8

Brighton 4.8

Crystal Palace 4.7

Nottingham Forest 4.6

Aston Villa 4.3

Newcastle United 4.3

Wolverhampton Wanderers 4.3

Everton 3.6

Ipswich Town 3.4

Leicester City 3.2

Southampton 3.0

Interestingly, the Blues are also the top Premier League side for the most big chances missed. If Maresca’s side can become just a bit more clinical, they’re going to seriously start blowing opponents away with ease.

Rafael Benitez previously mentioned Chelsea’s impressive attack this season, which is showing no signs of slowing down.

On top of their league form, the Blues have netted 21 goals in five matches in the Conference League group stages. They wrap up the group phase on Thursday night by hosting Shamrock Rovers at Stamford Bridge.

Do Chelsea need another striker?

A popular conversation in recent years has been around the Blues needing another centre-forward, but has Jackson finally filled the void as a top-class No.9.

Chelsea aren’t desperate to sign a new striker in January, so it sounds like Jackson will get to continue leading the line.

He’s scored nine goals in 15 Premier League matches this season, which is a decent return. His all-round game and ability to link play is superb, too.

Ultimately, Jackson’s got to prove this campaign that he can be a 20-goal frontman.
