Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has ripped into the team, claiming they were "appalling" against Manchester City last week despite securing a 2-1 win and still look "lacklustre" under new boss [Ruben Amorim.](https:// https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/ruben-amorim)

The Red Devils left it late for a dramatic victory over their rivals at the Etihad as Bruno Fernandes netted a penalty in the 88th minute before Amad Diallo struck two minutes later, triggering scenes of pandemonium in the away end.

That gave Amorim his fourth win in seven games since replacing Erik ten Hag as head coach last month, with the players seemingly responding to his methods after introducing a new way of playing and a 3-4-3 system.

But former United forward Yorke has not been impressed with the team's performances under the Portuguese coach since he took over. He said they were "appalling" for the majority of their win over City and believes they lack "energy" and look "lacklustre" under the guidance of Amorim.

Yorke said United needed a reality check given that they were still 13th in the Premier League table and feels Amorim is facing "a long road to get back to the top".

He told Sports Lens: "Let’s have it right, the City win was one good result. We needed a little pick-me-up, and we got one, but will it provide the ignition to Ruben’s rocket? I don’t think so.

"The City win brings joy to a few faces on the day and probably for a couple after, but, again, the United performance was appalling until Nunes gave us a route back into the game with the penalty. We’re sitting in thirteenth in the league, there's nothing there to smile about.

"We’re not convincing anyone. In the City game, we didn’t have a shot on target in the first half. If you're a real football guy and you analyse United, you know we are so far off the pace, it's untrue.

"I know that it’s early into Amorim’s tenure, but the early performances have been lacklustre. United are lacking energy when you watch them play. They have no energy, they don't seem to have pace going forward, they play one-dimensional kind of stuff."

Before United's win over City, Amorim had overseen back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest - but followed those up with a victory away at Czech minnows Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

The team are preparing for a trip to Tottenham on Thursday, where they can take another step towards winning a trophy if they can overcome the London side in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

It's not been plain sailing for Amorim at Old Trafford since he arrived this season, with the manager currently having to deal with the aftermath of Marcus Rashford's bombshell interview confirming he wants to leave the club.
