Donnarumma’s facial Injury mars PSG’s victory over Monaco

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma suffered a horrific facial injury during the match against Monaco, forcing him to leave the field early. The incident occurred when Monaco defender Wilfried Singo, formerly of Torino, accidentally caught Donnarumma in the face with his boots as the goalkeeper came out to challenge for the ball.

The collision left Donnarumma with multiple cuts on his face, requiring immediate medical attention and stitches. Despite the severity of the contact, Singo only received a yellow card for the challenge, a decision that has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike.

PSG went on to win the high-stakes match 4-2, solidifying their position at the top of the Ligue 1 table with 40 points, now 10 points clear of second-placed Monaco and Marseille, both on 30 points.

The match at Stade Louis II, officiated by Letexier, saw PSG manager Luis Enrique make some notable decisions, including leaving out striker Kolo Muani due to tactical reasons amid transfer speculations. The Parisians were also without injured players Kimpembe and Nuno Mendes.

Monaco, for their part, had a longer list of absentees, including Balogun, Coulibaly, Diatta, Diop, Majecki, Mawissa Elebi, the suspended Teze, and former Juventus player Zakaria.

The scoring opened with Doué putting PSG ahead in the 24th minute. Monaco fought back in the second half with Ben Seghir converting a penalty and Embolo giving them the lead. However, PSG’s quality shone through with Dembélé scoring twice and Gonçalo Ramos adding another to secure the 4-2 victory.

The match will be remembered not just for PSG’s comeback win, but also for the unfortunate injury to Donnarumma, which occurred in the 14th minute when Singo’s challenge left the Italian goalkeeper unable to continue, leading to his substitution by Safonov in the 22nd minute.
