Joey Barton has launched a scathing attack on Alan Shearer, labelling the former Newcastle boss "a liar" and "a snake" due to disagreements from their time together at St James' Park in the 2008-09 season.
During their tumultuous spell at Newcastle, Barton and Shearer were involved in an alleged confrontation following a crushing 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, which led to Barton's suspension.
However, the conflict escalated when Shearer shared an anecdote claiming that Barton asked permission to attend an Everton match at Wembley. Barton dismissed this claim, denying that he asked for permission, as he was nursing an injury and Everton weren't scheduled to play that weekend.
Writing on his Common Sense podcast, Barton slammed Shearer as "a liar" in a caption, alleging that his Newcastle appointment was instrumental in their relegation.
He said: "Shearer was a liar and a snake. If Newcastle didn't appoint him, I believe that group would have survived. Don't be telling porkies Mary Poppins.
"[Shearer] could bore a glass eye to sleep him! Most boring man ever and he's been telling lies! He's been lying about what happened in the dressing room at Anfield.
"He's either got confused because he's headed (too much) or he's trying to fit the narrative. He said I'd asked him to go to the semi-final. I didn't ask him to go! I just went. We weren't playing that weekend and I was injured."
He also alleged that Shearer had called his teammates "s***" and branded him as "a baldy nugget". Barton continued his tirade, saying: "He conveniently missed out that he was coming in as our manager, when I was in the treatment room and in the gym, and saying: 'The other players were s***. Come on, I need you back! ' So straight away I was like, you're a f***ing snake you."
In a further social media post, Barton dared Shearer to respond: "I actually hope the baldy, nugget chirps up @alanshearer. What I know about him and his BBC cronies, he best keep his nut right down. Back under your stone with the other toad @GaryLineker."
This latest spat is not the first time Barton has clashed with Lineker since their days at Newcastle.
The feud dates back to 2012 when Shearer condemned Barton after he was sent off for QPR against Manchester City for elbowing Carlos Tevez.
Barton fired back online, stating: "Shearer's still on my case... I know I f***ed up Alan, thanks for stating the obvious. Whilst were both stating the obvious about each other, can I just say for the record what a great player u were.
"Well better me... But I have a better hair (which is not hard), wear well better shirts on TV and have a personality(something u lack). P.S. My final point, ur a s*** pundit/manager."
