Everton boss Sean Dyche speaks to the media
Sean Dyche has helped slash costs at Everton
Sean Dyche will be allowed to continue as Everton boss by new owner Dan Friedkin because he has kept the Blues in the Premier League while slashing costs.
Everton are the only top-flight club to have a net transfer profit since the start of the 2022-23 season with £96.3million generated. Dyche succeeded Frank Lampard two years ago next month and he has presided over the cost-cutting at Goodison Park - along with director of football Kevin Thelwell.
Chelsea top the net spend over the same period with an eye-watering £788.7million and the next best to Everton is Wolves, who only spent £3.3million. The Blues brought in £270.1million, while spending £173.8million since the summer of 2022.

Big names went, such as Richarlison to Tottenham for £58million in July 2022, Anthony Gordon to Newcastle for £45.6million and Amadou Onana to Aston Villa in July for £59.4million. After the prolificacy of the early years of outgoing owner Farhad Moshiri, when £45million was wasted on Gylfi Sigurdsson, £25million on Yannick Bolasie and £25million on Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Everton have been run on a much-surer financial footing.
Player costs have been reduced by over £10million or eight per cent as the Blues moved away from signing older players with poor availability records. The focus has shifted away from Hollywood signings, like the £20million James Rodriguez to please then boss Carlo Ancelotti, to younger ones under 25.
The Blues have also exploited the loan market with deals such as the one for Jack Harrison when they took advantage of a clause in his Leeds deal to sign him if the Elland Road club were relegated, as they were in 2023.
Many fans have been unhappy with signings like Beto and the Guinea-Bissau striker has just scored seven goals in 48 appearances since his move from Udinese in August 2023. But that play now, pay later agreement was what Everton could afford then when they desperately needed another forward and those sorts of deals are history now.

Dyche has managed to improve Everton on the pitch and their haul of 48 points before they were deducted eight for falling foul of PSR would have been good enough for 12th. This would have been their best finish since 2021 and they accrued 12 points more than in 2022-23. With such successes, Dan Friedkin is happy to leave Dyche in place.
The American has yet to speak to Dyche, but his team will be speaking to him to outline their aims for the next six months. Dyche will be judged on results and the American will only sack him if they nosedive.
The biggest goal is to ensure Everton are a Premier League club when they move to their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock in the summer. Dyche has a proven track record when it comes to keeping clubs in the top flight.
He was sacked by Burnley in 2022 before they went down and was relegated with them in 2015, but he has won seven relegation fights, mostly against the odds, with the Clarets and the Blues.
Dyche’s contract expires in July and Friedkin may not hand him a new deal as he ponders who is the best man to take Everton forward. But Dyche can leave a proud man as he heads off into the sunset if he keeps Everton up.
