Everton legend Alan Stubbs says The Friedkin Group ‘look like they know what they are doing
A cautiously optimistic Stubbs, speaking to Sky Sports News, described the Everton takeover as “great news”.
He said that The Friedkin Group “look like they know what they are doing” and boast both experience and financial clout.
“Only time will tell, but I think today’s news is great news for Everton Football Club,” said Stubbs, as transcribed by BBC Sport.
“It brings the curtain down on a chapter where there has not been too many positives. Hopefully, with The Friedkin Group, now we have got a brighter future in front of us.
“They certainly look like they know what they are doing, which is obviously half the battle. They come with not just a wealth of experience in football but also a financial clout as well.”
Why Moshiri’s Everton tenure didn’t go to plan
Stubbs also said he believed Moshiri was “badly advised” whilst in charge at Everton but had to “take the blame because he listened to that”.
He said: “With Farhad Moshiri, the one thing you can’t knock him for is he put his money where his mouth was.
“The problem was that I think the people around him let him down. He was badly advised and has to take a bit of the blame because he listened to that.
“His lasting legacy is that he has provided us with a state-of-the-art new stadium that we are about to move into.
“The Friedkin Group now start off with a blank piece of paper and the chance for them to put their imprint on this football club.”
Dan Friedkin has been proposed as the chairman of Everton’s board, with Marc Watts serving as executive chairman.
Watts, the president of the Friedkin Group, will be responsible for the management of the club.
