PSG defender Milan Skriniar has been linked with a move to Tottenham ahead of the January transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur could be busy in the upcoming January transfer window.
Despite Sunday’s 5-0 hammering of Southampton, there is still room for improvement at Spurs, who were on a run of five matches without victory in all competitions before winning at the St Mary’s Stadium. Indeed, they are sitting in mid-table in the Premier League, and their squad has been decimated by a lot of injuries.
The central defence is an area where the Lilywhites are pretty light in terms of options at the moment. Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have suffered several fitness issues and are sidelined until next year. Ben Davies is on the comeback trail from a hamstring problem, forcing Ange Postecoglou to use teenager Archie Gray as a makeshift centre-back alongside Radu Dragusin.

Spurs defender Micky van de Ven has suffered injury problems this season
Chairman Daniel Levy backed Ange Postecoglou in the summer transfer window with some exciting signings, and reinforcements could follow in January as well. A centre-back has to be a priority heading into next month’s transfer window.
According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham are a “plausible destination” for Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Milan Skriniar.
Milan Skriniar was regarded as one of the best defenders in the world during his time at Inter Milan, where he played close to 250 games across six seasons. He joined Paris Saint-Germain in July 2023 amid a lot of fanfare; however, the move hasn’t turned out as expected.
Cristian Romero has been sidelined with a quad injury since November and will not play again this year
The Slovakian international is now deemed as surplus to requirements for Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique, who didn’t include him in his squad to face Lyon last weekend. The 29-year-old has gone from being the Inter Milan captain to being a nobody at PSG in just over a year. He is not counted in the club’s plans moving forward by Enrique as the defender is not suited to his possession-based style of football.

Skriniar has a contract at Parc des Princes until 2028 (Transfermarkt), so signing him in January would require Spurs to pay a premium to PSG. The North Londoners supposedly have limited funds to spend in the forthcoming transfer window, with cash only available for a quality centre-back.

If that is the case, it would be better for the club to look for a younger profile of a defender than splashing the cash on Skriniar, who is 29 and has seen his stock plummet in the last couple of years. a defender in the age group of 22-25 would be ideal for Big Ange’s side to compete with the likes of Romero, Van de Ven and Dragusin.
