Newcastle United have enjoyed great runs in the Carabao Cup recently.
It’s a competition that Toon boss Eddie Howe seems to enjoy as the 47-year-old has reached the quarter-finals or better on five occasions with Bournemouth and Newcastle respectively.
This season is no different, Howe has guided his side to another League Cup semi-final to go all the way and avenge Newcastle’s defeat to Manchester United at Wembley in 2023.
Sandro Tonali looks to be at his best following a brace in Newcastle’s win against Brentford with Fabian Schar also on the scoresheet.
The win on Wednesday continued a streak that Howe has held with him throughout his three-year reign as Newcastle’s manager which he will want to continue in the semi-final.

Eddie Howe is yet to lose a Carabao Cup game at St James’ Park
Howe has overseen eight Carabao Cup games at St James’ Park since becoming head coach in 2021. He has won all of them.
It starts with the Magpies win on penalties against Crystal Palace in 2022 followed by wins against Bournemouth and Leicester in the next two rounds.
Newcastle confirmed their place in the 2022/23 final with a win against Southampton before succumbing to Man United at Wembley.
Last season Howe took on Manchester City at St James’ Park in their only home game of the competition beating them 1-0 thanks to an Alexander Isak strike. Newcastle beat Man United 3-0 at Old Trafford in the next round but would be knocked out in the quarter-finals away to Chelsea on penalties.
This season’s wins against AFC Wimbledon, Chelsea and Bournemouth add to the impressive statistic. With the Carabao Cup semi-final draw taking place on Thursday Howe has the chance to add another scalp to the wall.

Newcastle United fans are already thinking about another Wembley appearance
After Newcastle scored their third goal of the evening, the fans inside St James’ Park fans began a chant that had been missing since the win against Southampton which took them to the final in 2023.
Fans began to chant “Tell me ma, me ma, I won’t be home for tea, we’re going to Wembley”, a chant that became like a war cry for fans that season.
The support during the game was carried on from Newcastle’s win against Leicester on Saturday. The Toon crowd pleased Howe and was a catalyst for the performance in the game against Brentford.
Howe and co will be watching Thursday’s draw closely as they learn who they will need to dispatch to reach another Wembley final.
