Arsenal have learned Viktor Gyokeres has a 'preference' of which club he would like to join in 2025. However, that club remains unnamed as the transfer battle begins to heat up towards the January window.
As long as Gyokeres keeps banging in the goals, interest in acquiring the striker from the Portuguese outfit will continue to exist. The Gunners have been closely tied to the striker who has netted 70 strikes in 75 Sporting CP appearances.
However, nothing is settled just yet and were Mikel Arteta and Co. to take their eye off the ball in the coming months they would risk losing out to a rival, or so it seems.
The latest update from The Athletic deals out many interesting facts regarding the 26-year-old and where the land lies regarding his future.
It is claimed that Gyokeres himself already holds one club in higher regard than all others. As Premier League title challengers in each of the past two seasons and requiring a goalscorer as the final piece of the puzzle, Arsenal will hope that club is them.
He and his representatives continue to monitor the situation and all possible options in the Premier League and Europe's other top divisions.
Already reported was the striker's €100m (£83m) release clause in his contract running to 2028, though Sporting would supposedly consider offers in the region of €70m (£57.8m) with the 'gentleman's agreement' they have for the coming year.
As for the timing of those offers, it is explained that the Portuguese champions expect their player to leave in the summer 2025 window, though ultimately they cannot account for the actions of Arsenal or any other club going all-out in January.
That just leaves the details of who will come to the table for Gyokeres. This latest report gives particular focus on Premier League rivals Man United, amongst 'a host of other suitors'.
His close working relationship with new Man United boss Ruben Amorim from their time together in Lisbon cannot be denied, although as a welcome news for the Gunners 'that doesn’t guarantee he’ll favour a switch to Old Trafford'.
So, the only certainty is that this player is going to be the centre of one of 2025's biggest transfer storms in recent memory.
