Liverpool among clubs hoping to land Everton star

Liverpool booked their place in the last four of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win over Premier League strugglers Southampton on Wednesday.

Goals from Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott put the visitors in a commanding position at half-time at St. Mary’s, but Cameron Archer pulled one back for the hosts after the break.

Saints were unable to find an equaliser, though, meaning the Reds march in to the semi-finals of the competition that they won last year.

Off the pitch, it appears that Liverpool are hoping to sign a player from one of their fiercest rivals.

As per GiveMeSport, the Reds are hoping to sign defender Jarrad Branthwaite from Merseyside rivals Everton.

The Englishman has impressed for the Toffees over the past couple of seasons, and the report suggests that Manchester City and Manchester United are also interested in the central defender.

Branthwaite is a target for some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs

Branthwaite, 22, has played more than 60 times for Everton since joining the club from Football League side Carlisle United in 2020.

He has spent time on loan at both Blackburn Rovers and PSV Eindhoven, but has established himself as a regular at Goodison Park over the past couple of years and his impressive displays have attracted the interest of some of the division’s biggest clubs.

Despite significant interest from elsewhere, the report suggests that the centre-back is unlikely to leave Everton next month as none of the interested parties are likely to fork out the Toffees’ £80 million price tag for the player.

It is, however, claimed that all three interested clubs are plotting potential moves for next summer’s transfer window, with Everton determined to at least hold onto the England international until the end of the current campaign.

Branthwaite is contracted to the Merseyside outfit until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
