Rangers linked with shock move for £30m midfielder manager admits has ‘struggled’ to adapt

Rangers have used the Premier League loan market to good effect in recent seasons with the likes of Fabio Silva, Abdallah Sima and Amad Diallo spending short stints in Glasgow.

It’s a market which Nils Koppen and the Rangers recruitment team will have one eye heading into January with several talented players not getting their opportunities in the first of the season.

Rangers have already been offered Chelsea talent Carney Chukwuemeka ahead of the transfer window and now it appears another Stamford Bridge talent could be on the Ibrox club’s radar.

Rangers linked to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

According to journalist Jason Pettigrove, Rangers are one of a number of clubs tailing Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Only six months after Enzo Maresca and Chelsea paid £30m to bring Dewsbury-Hall to London from Leicester City is the 26-year-old potentially set to be on the move.

According to Pettigrove, writing for Caught Offside, Rangers are amongst several top Premier League clubs who are monitoring the situation of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall at Chelsea.

Leicester City, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford and Manchester United have all been mentioned but there is one club supposedly leading the chase.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are the side said to be in the ascendency when it comes to Dewsbury-Hall with Chelsea hoping to ‘recoup their investment’ on the midfielder.

Needless to say, if Rangers had any hope of singing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in January it would only be on a loan deal but the competition certainly appears fierce.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s Chelsea opportunities limited

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has seen opportunities limited at Chelsea this season.

Having played a big role in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League campaign, Dewsbury-Hall has made only five substitute appearances in the Premier League.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has previously discussed the situation surrounding the £30m midfielder, with the Italian coach admitting Dewsbury-Hall struggled to adapt in the first part of the season.

“Kiernan was, at Leicester, the most important player,” said Maresca, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“He moved to Chelsea to be one other player. You have to accept that.

”Probably at the beginning, you struggle to accept that. Now it’s getting better.

“Me as a manager, I am very happy with Kiernan, no doubt.

“But for sure for him, he has to continue to work, wait for the chance and take it, in the way he is doing in the Conference League. He is doing OK.”
